How's my son gonna feel?
How is my child going to feel?
Your child may have these feelings during the disease process:
Confusion. It is very likely that you do not understand everything that is happening, the changes in your body or in your health, the new rules for your care, and so on. You have to explain him in words and ideas appropriate for his age and without giving him more information than he asks for.
Anger. Sometimes this is the way to express your pain and anger because you cannot go about your life normally. Remember it's not that he's mad at you, he just doesn't know how to deal with this.
Guilt. Children, even if they don't say it, can feel guilty about being sick. They think that the disease is a punishment for some mischief, behavior or inappropriate thinking. If you detect these thoughts, you have to talk to them and repeat as many times as necessary, that it is not their fault that their body is sick, but not because of something bad they have done.
Little by little, if you accompany them lovingly and with information, those feelings will settle.
You will be surprised how children have the ability to adapt to everything!
